Hill's Science Diet Ideal Balance Review

Hi Kitties and Humans (and Dogs too),

The feline caretaker in the house (aka, Meowmy the author) has recently gotten a chance to try Hill's Science Diet Ideal Balance food with all of the furry felines in the home and has thus far been impressed.  If you don't know what this food is, see this link to compare your current food to Hill's.  The best part is you can download a rebate form to try the food for FREE!  What is better than free cat food you ask?  Nothing is the answer from my kitties, which is why Meowmy was so excited to try this food through Bzzagent (a word-of-mouth reviews website that is purrtastic!).

As part of our taste test, we sampled both the Hill's Science Diet Ideal Balance regular and Grain-Free versions.  The verdict?  Delicious!  Yes, there really wasn't an adjustment period as the food was gobbled down in seconds by pretty much every feline in the home, even the finicky ones.  The preferred food appeared to be the Grain-Free version, which contains potatoes rather than corn or grains.  All of the foods meet Meowmy's standards of no by-products for the kitties and contain chicken and chicken meal as some of the primary ingredients, along with vegetable proteins from peas and animal proteins from eggs, a highly digestible food source.  All in all, we were all impressed and have even ordered more bags of the yummy deliciousness for us to eat.  Plus, our fur looks nice and shiny, so it must be doing something right.

So go to the Hill's Website and check it out for yourself - it's free, what have you got to lose?

Music for Cats

It seems that my cats enjoy music.  I enjoy music too, but my cats' favorite activity is to gather around while I write and listen to music.  My cats like to relax and sleep along with the music, so when I saw this:

I thought to myself that they might enjoy this.  And it seems that they do.  I thought it was crazy, but this particular collection of gentle, instrumental, classical songs calms my kitties like nobody's business.  They're absolutely fascinated and I find it peaceful to write along to, so it's a win-win situation.  Fascinate your kitty and order the CD or simply download it on your computer and play it for your cat to keep them calm and happy.

An added bonus to this is that my stressed out Siamese (I have two Siamese kitties, one somewhat normal little girl and one stressed out boy) seems to enjoy the music and it calms him.  He has been having incidents with inappropriate elimination and is also on an anti-anxiety medication (*sigh*, my poor stressed kitty, I sometimes wish he could see a kitty therapist and discuss his issues).  This music and some nice Feliway (a synthetic hormone spray that mimics the facial pheromones of cats and has calming abilities) really calm him down, so it's a bit like music therapy.

Relax your kitties with this collection of songs - it works for dogs too!

Musically,

Purrs to Those in Japan

I just wanted to write a quick post about those affected by the horrible earthquake and tsunami in Japan.  Our purrs and prayers go out to the families affected.  For those who wish to help, WorldVets is accepting donations to help pets affected by the disaster.

Also, read about Japan's "Cat Island" on the Catster Cat's Meow Blog, an island populated with cats and people that has become an interesting tourist destination and haven for cat lovers.  Purr and pray for their safety.

Yay - New Simon's Cat Video

I know it is silly to get this excited, but the newest Simon's Cat video is here!  As usual, it's adorable as this naughty kitty gets into a "sticky" situation.  Very realistic to what my own kitties have done:

That and I've found this from the geniuses at Biokleen:

The Biokleen Bac-Out Stain & Odor Eliminator.  Amazing.  Which I may have to run away and marry (hmm, making me a bigamist, but does a cleaner really count as a second marriage?) because of its awesomeness in handling pet stains, or any stains for that matter.  As you may or may not know, I'm a bit of a green cleaner and have been on a kick to use only natural cleaners.  I'm also an owner of several plump felines that make their fair share of messes to deal with.  Including, but not limited too my youngest cat's recent urine-a-thon (which stopped).  And my older cat's copying of said urine-a-thon (cross fingers, no urine for days now).  There was a lot of spraying of enzymatic cleaners including this one.

This cleaner is Heaven sent (and scented).  It has a pleasant lime aroma and you can just spray it on messes and go as it contains little microorganisms and enzymes that eat away the organic stains.  Since my preferred method of cleaning involves spraying and walking away, this makes this the IDEAL cleaner for me.  Plus, it doesn't just cover up stains it eats them!  And it's environmentally friendly and safe for my crazy allergies.

While I find this similar to Nature's Miracle (another favorite), it smells delish, so it wins out.  Spray it on any organic stains before the wash and voila!  You clean the stains away.  And in the garbage can, a breath of fresh air.  Did I mention I love this stuff?  Well I do.  Go buy some!

Wellness Recall for Cat Food

For the Pet Parents out there, be aware of the voluntary recall from Wellness brand canned cat food. In case you're wondering, yes, I did flip out upon reading this because, YES, this is what I feed my kitties! But it doesn't seem overtly serious and since my kitties get a combination of this and other types of food, I think we're okay. Now I have to decide whether I want to return my cans...argh...and since a cat food order is coming up, do I order this again for the month? Or go with another brand until some of these cans get out of the system? I think this month may be another type of food, but we'll see...sometimes I wish I was less lazy and would make my own cat food...

For your own knowledge, here is a little more information about the recall:

The lots involved in this voluntary recall are:

Wellness Canned Cat (all flavors and sizes) with best by dates from 14APR 13 through 30SEP13;
Wellness Canned Cat Chicken & Herring (all sizes) with best by date of 10NOV13 and 17NOV13.

If you have cat food from these lots, you should stop feeding it to your cats. You may call WellPet at 1-877-227-9587 to arrange for return of the product and reimbursement.

Yes, this is what my kitties eat
According to the website, no other products were affected by the recall, only these lots of canned cat food. For more information, go here and read more about it.

Must Love Cats

Can I just say how adorable the show "Must Love Cats" on Animal Planet is?  Hosted by John Fulton, the show chronicles amazing cats and their owners.  From a home that the owner modified to suit his cats (ahem, my dream home, seriously) to cats that have their own band (why can't my cats do this?), the show covers everything cat and adorable (are the two really separate, no I don't think so).

Plus, let's face it, Cats + TV = AWESOME!!

And along those lines, here's a kitty who takes their own pictures and films their own movies:

Go check out this adorable show here.

P.S. I think there is a new Simon's Cat video coming out soon!
